The Adults and Children Together (ACT) Raising Safe Kids Program was developed by the American Psychological Association’s Violence Prevention Office in collaboration with the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The ACT Program teaches positive parenting skills to parents and caregivers of children ages birth – 8. The ACT Program curriculum is provided in eight, 2-hour sessions in which parents learn about child development and behaviors, how early exposure to violence affects young children and how to foster positive-parenting skills. Children’s Mercy Hospital is partnering with Genesis Promise Academy, Amethyst Place and Gordon Parks Elementary School, all which serve low income families in Kansas City’s urban core.
